Means Reduction Subcommittee
Purpose Statement: The Means Reduction Subcommittee aims to mitigate the risk of lethal means of suicide through education and advocacy.
Goals: Implement activities outlined in the SPAP Means Reduction Strategy Implementation Plan. Gather and review data on the commonly used means and methods of suicide. Provide education and share resources with stakeholders, professionals, and the general public. Track legislation related to lethal means and advocate for and inform means reduction related policy.
The Means Reduction Subcommittee meets on fourth Monday of the month from 2:00pm – 3:30pm.

NAMI San Diego’s Mobile Apps OscER and OscER JR
NAMI San Diegos’s mobile apps can be used to privately seek information when someone is in a mental health crisis, including community resources, and answers commonly-asked questions regarding mental health. It also includes the warning signs of suicidal behavior, the national suicide prevention phone number as well as the access and crisis line and the app gives advice on how to talk with someone if they are suicidal.
OscER and OscER Jr stand for (Organized Support Companion in an Emergency Situation)
- Free mobile app
- OscER and OscER JR are available in six different languages, English, Spanish, Arabic, Farci, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
- They both bring awareness and knowledge to mental health.
