PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE AGENDA
The Community Health Improvement Partners’ policy agenda puts into action the five priority issues identified by the CHIP Needs Assessment: access to healthcare, social determinants of health, obesity, mental/behavioral health and violence and injury prevention. Overarching policy statements on Access to Healthcare and Social Determinants of Health will guide CHIP efforts overall, as well as CHIP activities addressing obesity, mental/behavioral health and violence and injury prevention.
Access to Health Care
Support policies, efforts and issues, both programmatic and legislative, that promote access to health care services and to affordable, meaningful health coverage for all San Diegans, including but not limited to:
- Health reform implementation efforts which support community health improvement programs and services
- Health literacy to ensure patients have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions
- Chronic disease prevention
- Physical and mental health coordination and integration
- Behavioral health parity and reduction of stigma
- Workplace wellness programs that actively seek to promote the health and well being of employees
- Appropriate reimbursement for all health providers and services
Social & Environmental Determinants of Health
Support policies, efforts and issues, both programmatic and legislative, that address root causes and social factors in San Diego which impact individual and community health, including but not limited to:
- Physical activity and safe and active transportation (i.e., walking, biking)
- Healthy food availability, affordability and options
- Built environment and planning including access to food, parks, crime prevention through environmental design, public safety and ease of access
- Access to affordable, appropriate and quality housing
- Health equity; ensuring that all San Diego residents have sufficient access to opportunities that enable them to lead healthy lives
