Influenza

We encourage individuals in the following groups, who are at increased risk for complications from influenza (the flu) to visit your health care provider to discuss the benefits of influenza vaccination and obtain influenza immunization.  If you are included in one of the groups below for increased risk for complications from the flu and do not have a family doctor, you can access information about flu vaccine clinics by clicking on the "Immunization Sites" link above.

Flu vaccine is recommended every year from October – April.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending the flu vaccine to the following people:

  • Children 6 months - 18 years (even if healthy)
  • People with chronic conditions (heart disease, lung disease, asthma, cancer, diabetes, kidney or immune system disorders)
  • Women who will be pregnant during flu season
  • Healthcare providers
  • People who take care of or live with children under 5 years or adults over 50 years
  • Residents of nursing homes or other chronic care facilities
  • People 50 years or older (even if healthy)
  • Family members or anyone in close contact with people at risk of flu complications

The "FluMist" nasal spray flu vaccine is available for:

  • 2-49 year olds (except pregnant women)

"FluMist" nasal spray flu vaccine is available for people between the ages of 2-49. The vaccine is Thimerosal free (mercury free). For more information about "FluMist", please visit: www.flumist.com
