The San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative teamed up with icansandiego, a local diabetes prevention campaign, to equip faith communities with tools and resources for promoting nutrition and physical activity changes. This guide provides faith leaders with faith-based wellness policy templates and implementation tips, instructional guides, and other useful resources emphasizing the connection between faith and health.

  • In 2006 alone, overweight; obesity; and physical inactivity cost California $41 billion in healthcare and productivity loss
  • If today‚Äôs current trend continues, it is anticipated that 1 in 3 children born in the US after the year 2000 will develop type 2 diabetes (American Diabetes Association, 2009).
  • More children are being diagnosed with diseases linked to overweight and obesity previously seen only in adults, such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease (The Obesity Society, 2009).
